Introduction(Note: If you are confident that your computer is correctly configured for the Vista 4 e-learning environment and you are already familar with the use of the Assignment Submission and Discussions tools, you may wish to proceed immediately to complete the required Personal Introduction posting.) If you experience any technical difficulties with the following exercises, your first step should be to check the configuration of your
Java Runtime Environment using the procedures outlined in the optional DO ME FIRST!! section of the
course.
In the following exercises you will test the your computer’s ability to submit a "test assignment" using the Vista 4 Assignment Submission Tool, and to upload and post a message to a Discussion Topic using the Vista 4 Discussions Tool. These tools are used extensively for assignments and to support general class discussions, so your ability to use them is critical to your academic success in this course. If, after checking your JRE configuration you still can’t successfully submit a test assignment or make a test posting, please contact Technical Support for assistance. Because these two procedures are somewhat complicated, tutorials have been developed to walk you through them. Please review the screenshots and procedures outlined in the tutorials as many times as necessary to become thoroughly familiar with the use of these tools. IMPORTANT: The DO ME NEXT folder has been opened in a new window to enable you to actively practice using the Assignment Submission and Discussion tools as you review the directions given in the tutorials. Simply read the step-by-step directions in this tutorial window and switch back and forth between this window and the VISTA window to carry out those instructions. Most of the images used to illustrate these tutorials were captured from computers that use the Windows XP operating system. Some of the images you see may be different if you are using the Windows Vista operating system or a Macintosh computer. Please proceed to review the tutorials and complete the following exercises:
If you need additional assistance, please contact Technical Support. Please note: the ability of Technical Support Services to assist learners who have not installed the required or recommended
software is very limited.
