COURSE DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this demonstration course is to illustrate, by example and description, options for implementing course development recommendations outlined in OLC's Program and Course Development Model. The model proposes that development of online courses be based in large part on recognized, research-based "effective practices" in the design, development and delivery of online learning, and on constructivist, learner-centered learning theories applicable to higher education.

This demonstration course illustrates a variety of ways to accomplish those outcomes.

However, it does not attempt to illustrate solutions to all possible online course development issues. Nor is it the only template for online courses that employ learner-centered, constructivist approaches. Instead, it offers a series of examples and suggestions intended to stimulate creative thinking about additional ways in which student learning can be initiated, directed, encouraged and assessed in online courses.
